The CIMG Awards come in 26 categories, and Special awards, which are noncompetitive.
The categories are:

- Insurance Co. of the Year
- Retail outlet of the Year
- Motor Firm of the Year
- Airline of the Year
- Outdoor Advert of the Year
- Print Advert of the Year
- TV Advert of the Year
- Radio Advert of the Year
- Radio Programme of the Year
- TV Programme of the Year
- Media Organisation of the Year
- Indigenous Catering Facility the Year
- Hospitality Facility of the Year
- Petroleum Company of the Year
- Emerging Brand of the Year
- Brand Activation Programme of the Year
- Agro-Based Company of the Year
- Non-Profit Making Organisation of the Year
These categories have seen constant monitoring, reviews and amendments. There used to be Industrial Company of the Year, but this has been changed to Manufacturing Company of the Year, while Supermarket of the Year has also been changed to Retail Outlet of the Year. This Year there are 2 new additions. These are Non-Profit Making Organisation and Emerging Brand.
